Aha! The Elle Style Awards: If you whizz down this blog post at speed, you will discover it's like moving from one end of the fashion spectrum to the other.
At one end we have Agyness Deyn, looking the epitomy of v. late Eighties, punk cool in padded shoulder pink jacket, loud t-shirt dress and ripped tights...
... then move on to Lily Allen who is a vision of 'fragrancy' in a pretty, on trend 40s style dress dress - and 'updo' - presumably courtesy of the stylist from Desperate Housewives...
...and then at the other end of fashion spectrum, we have Alexa Chung, who clearly is living out her childhood fantasies in public with a Barbie Island Princess concoction. My three year old daughter will be very 'x'cited'!

However well you plan, something can always go wrong. And that's exactly what happened at two designer shows today when - shock, horror! - two models slipped and fell on the runway.
One at Rebecca Taylor – she lost a shoe. The other at Zac Posen – flat on the floor and she was pro Karen Elson! She laughed it off though, and designer Zac (clad in his usual ringmaster style tux) took her down the runway with him at the end. Like a handsome prince rescuing the damsel…
His show was a fairytale of sorts actually, with sweet eveningwear and Minnie Mouse-like pom poms on models’ heads. Wait… could it have been a planted stunt?
Now for the moment that made my week (if not my year..or life!):
I saw Carine Roitfeld today. Wait, let me rephrase that. I stood four feet away and made eye contact with the editor of Paris Vogue today. So, why are these statements not filled with exclamation marks?? I’m still in shock!
The superb Carine is pretty much my idol in this industry we call fashion, and the fact that you could seriously feel her presence (and not in an icy breeze, Anna Wintour kinda way) makes my long days at the shows this week more than worthwhile.
Carine was exiting from a private meeting in the lobby of the tents, followed by her daughter Julia Reston-Roitfeld. Carine wore a black jersey hooded top with a massive fur coat, while her mini me opted for a girly ivory ruffled dress.
Actually, I should rephrase that, too! Carine was the mini one... tiny in fact! How all that genius comes out of that little woman… *dreamy stare off into the distance*
OK, OK, I’m snapping out of it now. Let’s get to the goods! Having been way too starstruck to even think of snapping the amazing Ms Roitfeld, I plumped for this gorgeous girl instead. The cute sailor-style striped top (bang on-trend for this spring!) and over-sized beanie won me over. Click here to find out how to get the look.
Back at the shows, other American fashion super powers took to the catwalk today. Vera Wang started off with a moody and eccentric feel, full of rich beautiful colour and florals.
Calvin Klein was next, with Liv Tyler sitting in the front row, taking the spotlight off the predictably sterile clothes.
Then came Tommy Hilfiger, before Prince Zac, with a nod to classic American sportswear but in a much more sophisticated way than we’re used to seeing (no chavs here!). And he took our vote for favourite celebrity spots: Pharrel Williams and Maggie Gyllenhall.
Well, tomorrow will bring news of how Fashion Week closed. What really will happen at the Marc Jacobs show? What are the top trends we all must be planning ahead for? Don’t touch that mouse, OSO Blog devotees!

I'm proud of the celebrities at Fashion Week today. They really proved that when it comes to fashion, they know how to separate business from spectacle, and drew attention to the causes that really matter.
I will admit that as a general rule, I'm fairly sceptical when celebrities start clothing lines. But Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Justin Timberlake have proven to make extremely smart choices about how they run their business of fashion.
They could easily have run with a mad house of a show, but both The Row (the Olsen’s line) and William Rast (JT’s project) presented their Fall collections with little fanfare and intimate presentations. That way you could focus on the simple and elegant pieces of The Row, and the newly expanded women’s wear of unisex brand William Rast. Instead of gossiping about what the Olsens were wearing, or whether Jessica Biel was there to support JT (she wasn’t). It is about the clothes after all, isn’t it?
But, more on that later.
The other reason I’m so pleased with our lovely celebrities this fine Thursday is the fact that they use their A-list status for good. Madonna partnered with Gucci to host a fundraising benefit, A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF, last night, taking over the United Nations to do it. Now that is star power right there!
This was THE big ticket of the week and a whole host of celebs came out for it. Jennifer Lopez, TomKat, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Demi Moore, Gwen Stefani… the list goes on! Rihanna was there to perform after a couple of days reporting at the front row. Seriously, an event dreams were made of.
So, for those without the golden ticket (they were actually gold)? Well, the hipster scene took themselves off to the Anna Sui afterparty, also host to British model Agyness Deyn’s birthday celebration. And the party kicked off early at Anna's afternoon show, where people were dancing in their seats during the catwalk presentation.
Now, remember I mentioned a rumour about a live band being involved in the Marc by Marc Jacobs show? Well, gossip on the front row has it that this will actually happen at Marc's regular Marc Jacobs show instead (Keeping up?). He's scheduled to close the week on Friday evening, and rumours have been swirling like crazy about what he’s got up his sleeve. M.I.A. is rumoured to be involved. Stay tuned for that!
But for now, a little daily dose of fashion comes in the form of this bundled up bit of gorgeousness right here. I loved the colour combo this girl was working. Click here to get it for yourself.
Ta for now! Fashion may never sleep, but I do!

What would Fashion Week be without a healthy dose of drama? Well, the answer really is ‘not Fashion Week’. So I thought I'ld fill you in on a bit of scoop surrounding the shows yesterday and the night before.
Btw, this time difference is a killer! And as much as I love you OSO Blog readers, I just can’t bear to wake up at 4am to blog about the late night I had before. I need my beauty sleep! So bear with me here as I report from, erm, the past!
The Ports 1961 show turned into a scene from a nightclub as one show crasher was refused entrance and literally had to be hauled off by four burly men (not sure where these burly men came from…). This resulted in all ticket holders who were allotted standing room being turned away as they decided to shut the doors completely.
The launch party for Chloe Sevigny’s new fashion line Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony on the hip Lower East Side neighbourhood created such a stir that invitees were forced to queue for an hour in the rain. As you can imagine, this caused quite a few 'VIP' fashionistas to turn round and go home.
And at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show, I overheard that a certain Editor-in-Chief of a woman’s monthly being given standing room only (normally given to lowly reporters - like moi!), until an assistant asked the woman at the door ‘Don’t you know who she is?’...
A week of fashion drama really calls for a buddy system to brave the events. Which is exactly how our two style stars for today approach it. They even insisted on being photographed together! But hey, that just means a little extra street style for today. I loved the green tweedy jacket with a printed top and quirky grey heels. And can you really go wrong with black on black? Definitely my top looks of the day. Click here to get their looks.
And of course, there's still the fashion shows to talk about. Day 5 was all about glamour and rock stars, with Matthew Williamson falling smack dab in the middle of it all.
A couple Ugly Betty stars and Brittany Murphy (see what I mean about stars from the past?) were among those who took in the smoky, moody glamour at the Badgley Mischka and Monique L’huilleir shows. Sumptuous satins, tweeds and furs led the way in gorgeous autumnal colours. The evening wear didn't disappoint either, as both designers focused on gowns so good I wish that awards season actually existed in Hollywood this year.
Matthew Williamson’s show had a colourful rockabilly edge to it but with luxurious textures and beautiful fur scarves. Williamson, Diesel and Marc by Marc Jacobs dominated the rock star side of the catwalk, with M.I.A., Rihanna, Lydia Hearst and Fergie in the front row and hipster-worthy looks on the runway.
Tomorrow will bring news of just what went on behind the doors of Justin Timberlake’s William Rast party, one of the hot tickets of the week, and the Olsens presenting their own collection. Stay tuned!

I love these front-row-at-fash-show pictures. You can't watch a catwalk and pose for photos, so you get brilliant off-guard moments.
Is Chloe grappling with a spot of trapped wind? What is Milla finding so darn hilarious? Has Ashley really got exciting flashing eyes à la The Terminator?
Hours of fun.
And what can we learn from the style choices of these four fashion mavens? Let's look at the evidence.
Anne Hathaway knows you can't go wrong with a bit of Audrey Hepburn-esque understated elegance. Chloe Sevigny... well, we've discussed her outfit already. Ashley Olsen is still digging black on black. And Milla has a ladder in her tights.
Priceless.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the celebrity turn out over the weekend here at Fashion Week.
It’s not that they weren’t flocking to the front row. The celebrity aspect of the week was clear from the get-go. On Sunday you could watch the packs of photographers move around the tents in search of the biggest names.
But those big names just weren’t there. In fact many a forgotten celeb popped up. Does anyone remember Amy Smart? Piper Perabo, of Coyote Ugly fame, and Sophia Bush, of One Tree Hill were there too.
Mandy Moore made a welcome appearance in my books though. She’s just so lovely she should really sit front row more often. But Kirsten Dunst didn’t even show up at the Lutz & Patmos presentation where she had designed a couple of the looks. And as breath-taking as Jonathan Saunders’ first stateside showing was, it was really only for the fashion set.
Thankfully though, it looks as though celebrities like the work week. Monday brought out Fergie, Rihanna and Hilary Swank. Whew… that was a close one.
I happened to bump into this lovely girl standing outside the tents with my camera at the ready. How chic and easy is this outfit? The great big grey bag, the sleek black ankle boots, and a hint of blue peeking out at the sleeves made this look a winner. Click here to get it for yourself. Besides, what happens outside of the tents is frankly just as important as what happens inside.
But, speaking of inside the tents… I wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect for Fall trend-wise. Yes, I did go to a few shows and look at the clothes not just the front row. So... the trend round-up so far:
Still Going Strong
Spring/Summer trends that last:
- sheer
- neutrals
- prints
- wide leg trousers
Blast From the Past
So last year? Maybe not:
- Thigh high socks. Yep that’s right, they’re back.
- Leggings worn as trousers. Maybe Li Lo is actually on to something?
- The Forties. We still want to look like Katherine Hepburn.
- Tartan. A Fall favourite.
So what’s actually new this season? The biggest one so far is all-American sportswear. And it’s all about shapes and proportions. Say goodbye to trapeze jackets and hello to skinny belts on structured coats with lots of detail. And blue. All shades of the colour were appearing.
So it looks like what happens outside, à la our stylish street walker, really does matter.

When OSOYOU.com member MapleStyle told us she'd be out in Manhattan for New York Fashion Week, we just had to get all the behind-the-scenes gossip for our favourite OSO Blog readers - enjoy!
'Hey guys! No, I'm not reporting from the Swiss Alps, just a freezing cold little island called Manhattan. But what’s warming the hearts of the style-obsessed? It’s Fashion Week, people!
And there is just too much to tell so far for one itty bitty blog post, so let’s get straight to the good stuff.
Highlights:
- Kicking off the week with a handful of parties that garnered a line up of celebrities like Ashley Olsen, Anne Hathaway, Isabella Rossellini, Rachel Zoe… to name a few.
- High fashion going green. Future Fashion showed eco-friendly outfits by designers from Burberry to YSL, worn by top models like Irina Lazareanu and Shalom Harlow. The results? Phenomenal. Sustainable fashion has officially hit an all-time high.
- A vintage Halston-clad Liza Minelli singing New York, New York at the Heart Truth Red Dress show where celebrities like Joss Stone (check out her stunning dress here) and Heidi Klum took to the catwalk.
- Sass & Bide’s jubilant and colourful take on Autumn with rainbows of sequins on relaxed tunics, soft, flowing outerwear and black ruched leggings as applauded by Nicky Hilton (check out what she was wearing here).
- The drama swirling about Marc Jacobs' show. The designer threatened to pull it from the New York schedule, but the lastest we heard is that it's back on and that his Marc by Marc show may include a live band.
And outside all the festivities, New York trendsetters do their best to work it on the streets. I found today’s stylish streetwalker relaxing in the blistering cold outside the tents between shows. While I was doing my best Rudolph impression with a case of the sniffles, here she was looking fabulous in an almost patent puffer and a chic pair of shades.
Well, I’m determined to learn a lesson here in dressing to battle the elements in style. And you fair OSO Blog readers can join me by clicking here to get the look.
Stay tuned for more as I continue to report on New York Fashion Week… Just a couple hints on today’s upcoming goss? Homegrown boy Jonathan Saunder’s stateside debut and Kirsten Dunst’s shot at knitwear with Lutz & Patmos. Oh, it’s just too good!'

You know, I don't reckon it's that hard to make a successful film in Hollywood.
I mean, check out the trailer for new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, starring Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and Maggie Gyllenhaal. All they've done is follow the simple style formula below, and I'm already wishing Christmas away so that I can start the countdown to next summer's blockbuster.

Take one gorgeous man in a dashing designer suit...

...add one rather nasty bad guy in need of a few tips on applying make-up (look at those terrible crow’s feet - and I won't even mention that lipstick smear)...

...and add a beautiful damsel who definitely doesn't need any tips on looking good. You can bet she'll be looking pristine even when 'in distress'.
Et voila - slosh in a huge helping of edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting action and I think you may be in for a pretty darn good film.
And if that isn’t enough to convince you, click here to check out the whole trailer on Youtube.
