Victoria Beckham poses her way through New York Fashion Week

poshnyfw1.jpgSo, New York Fashion Week has come to a close (thanks for the insider coverage, MapleStyle!). And of course it couldn't come to a close without our very own Ambassador Of Style putting in a final appearance.

But sadly Kate Moss couldn't be there - so Victoria Beckham did the honours instead.

Posh turned up to the Marc Jacobs show on Friday night in a sparkling burgundy, backless number and a pair of killer Louboutins.

As the Daily Mail pointed out, the 'backless' element of this dress showed off a rather streaky fake tan - but then it was a slight improvement on Victoria's fashion offering earlier in the week, when she sported a Buddhist-monk style orange dress. iT was all very Zen, apart from the sunglasses and the matching shoes.

Victoria Beckham has all. The money. In the world. She can wear. Whatever. She. Likes.

So why, oh why...? Oh, I give up*.

Carmen Electra gets it ever-so-slightly wrong at New York Fashion Week

carmenfw.jpgMost celebrities and fashionistas don the universal uniform of black, black and more black when attending New York Fashion Week shows.

And then there's Carmen Electra.

Yes, you can take the girl out of Ohio, but you can't make her drink. Or however the saying goes.

Carmen turned up to Fashion Week clearly determined to plough her own style furrow. Which is a polite way of saying she looked a total sight.

The purple dress, the matching shoes, the sort-of-matching sunglasses... it's all just OSO wrong. Carmen: you're in New York. In February. Not Malibu. In August.

Still, come to think of it, if Carmen wanted to pick up a new outfit, she'd come to the right place. Let's hope she left wearing an elegant black trouser suit.

New York Fashion Week Insider: Final Thoughts

Nyfwstreetstyle3.jpg Well, that’s all folks! And in grand cliché style, the fat lady has sung. Well, actually for New York Fashion Week it was Kim Gordon, of grunge band Sonic Youth, doing the singing.

Last night fashion week ended with the most talked about show of the week: Marc Jacobs. Amidst all the rumours, even a little scandal, MJ pulled it off with an acutely on time show (a knee-jerk reaction to the complaints of his four hour late show of last season?) featuring a live band and a major concert set up rather than a runway. Hmm, I seem to remember hearing something about there being a live band at his show… oh, yeah. That was me! Okay, so I’m being a bit smug. But you have to admit that having OSOYOU’s blog as your port of call for all celeb and style gossip comes in pretty handy when you want the scoop before your mates.

Anyways, the show was kicked off by Marc himself running on stage to tell everyone to get ready. Then Kim Gordon came out and played a rocking show while models strutted their stuff. The clothes were gorgeous as usual. The celebrity attendance was as good as expected. And yes, Victoria Beckham made an appearance. She is his new muse after all! She looked her usual put-together self in a shimmering red dress. But the front row shocker?? K-Fed. Yep that’s right. Kevin Federline put on a suit and attended one of the hottest fashion shows around. I am soo on Team Federline.

And, it all comes to a close with that lovely readers. It’s been grand! And the gossip has been OSO good this time round. So what I will leave you with is of course in the name of style.

First, take a look up and tell me this isn’t the epitome of fashionable? The power red locks, the sexy ivory blouse, the killer heels and a quirky coloured coat. Could this girl be any more stylish? I think not. And that is why she is the perfect way to end fashion week. We can all learn a thing or two from her. Click here to get her style.

You know who else we can learn from? The designers too! Here’s a list of my top five trends for Fall:

1) Eccentric: mixing patterns, granny florals, rich colours, all with feminine flair.
2) High maintenance: Seriously coiffed hair, immaculate sophistication – this woman knows how to work a blouse and skirt.
3) Colour! Say goodbye to black on black and embrace the brightness of Fall. Mixing and matching required.
4) Neckwear: Scarves and exaggerated collars ruled the runways.
5) Moody Glamour: Stunning gowns took to the dark side of a fairy tale with smoky colours and a haunting, dream-like feel.

Yours in fashion, xx

Eva Longoria: on the cusp of a style low

eva_stylist.jpgPay attention, people! You are looking at a decisive moment in Eva Longoria's style wardrobe.

Forget the gorgeous sparkly embridered number she's wearing to the Naeem Khan show at New York Fashion Week. And the be-jewelled clutch. Even the pile-it-high hair.

Can you guess where my eyes are looking? That's right, they're on that guy sitting next to her. Y'know, the stylist who's wearing earmuffs round his neck and sunglasses on his forehead.

I don't care how good he is with clothes- what use is that if he can't find the right body part to put them on?

Fergie, pregnant? Unlike Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez, she'll tell us first

Fergie_grey-dress.jpgCheck out our favourite (well, our only) female Black Eyed Peas member at New York Fashion Week.

Is it wrong that I want to coo 'My, hasn't she grown up?', like a rather annoying auntie?

Fergie's gorgeous new grown-up style goes with an equally adult approach to the press frenzy surrounding her fellow 'slebs.

She's hit out against celebrities that hide their pregnancies like J Lo and Christina Aguilera, saying:

“It’s so stupid. It can be obvious a girl is pregnant but they still deny it. It’s as if they want the attention and press it causes. I wouldn’t be a part of all that nonsense”.

It's good to know you're a sharer, Fergs.

As luck would have it, I am too. Which is why I just have to tell you: Love the grey jumper dress and cardigan combo, but what’s with the shoes? Tan, grey and black does not a good outfit make. When will you learn, dear?

New York Fashion Week Insider: Day 7

Nyfwstreetstyle2.jpgHowever well you plan, something can always go wrong. And that's exactly what happened at two designer shows today when - shock, horror! - two models slipped and fell on the runway.

One at Rebecca Taylor – she lost a shoe. The other at Zac Posen – flat on the floor and she was pro Karen Elson! She laughed it off though, and designer Zac (clad in his usual ringmaster style tux) took her down the runway with him at the end. Like a handsome prince rescuing the damsel…

His show was a fairytale of sorts actually, with sweet eveningwear and Minnie Mouse-like pom poms on models’ heads. Wait… could it have been a planted stunt?

Now for the moment that made my week (if not my year..or life!):

I saw Carine Roitfeld today. Wait, let me rephrase that. I stood four feet away and made eye contact with the editor of Paris Vogue today. So, why are these statements not filled with exclamation marks?? I’m still in shock!

The superb Carine is pretty much my idol in this industry we call fashion, and the fact that you could seriously feel her presence (and not in an icy breeze, Anna Wintour kinda way) makes my long days at the shows this week more than worthwhile.

Carine was exiting from a private meeting in the lobby of the tents, followed by her daughter Julia Reston-Roitfeld. Carine wore a black jersey hooded top with a massive fur coat, while her mini me opted for a girly ivory ruffled dress.

Actually, I should rephrase that, too! Carine was the mini one... tiny in fact! How all that genius comes out of that little woman… *dreamy stare off into the distance*

OK, OK, I’m snapping out of it now. Let’s get to the goods! Having been way too starstruck to even think of snapping the amazing Ms Roitfeld, I plumped for this gorgeous girl instead. The cute sailor-style striped top (bang on-trend for this spring!) and over-sized beanie won me over. Click here to find out how to get the look.

Back at the shows, other American fashion super powers took to the catwalk today. Vera Wang started off with a moody and eccentric feel, full of rich beautiful colour and florals.

Calvin Klein was next, with Liv Tyler sitting in the front row, taking the spotlight off the predictably sterile clothes.

Then came Tommy Hilfiger, before Prince Zac, with a nod to classic American sportswear but in a much more sophisticated way than we’re used to seeing (no chavs here!). And he took our vote for favourite celebrity spots: Pharrel Williams and Maggie Gyllenhall.

Well, tomorrow will bring news of how Fashion Week closed. What really will happen at the Marc Jacobs show? What are the top trends we all must be planning ahead for? Don’t touch that mouse, OSO Blog devotees!

Madonna, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow...and friends

madonnalourdes.jpgMadonna threw a charity party with Gucci at New York Fashion Week last night, and all the A list attendees got into the giving spirit with gusto. Just look at the cute li'l friends they brought along!

Now, I'm going to excuse Madonna for bringing the pint-sized Lourdes to her big bash. She is, after all, a child, and therefore allowed to be short.

tomkat_nyfw.jpgBut what's with the rest of you, Katie, Jennifer and Gwyneth? This is a clear case of fashion before friends/ lovers/ whatever weird relationship TomKat have going on.

You can picture the scene: female celeb stares longingly at gorgeous heels; looks down at vertically-challenged invitee; stares back at said gorgeous heels. It was never going to be a fair contest, was it?

jenmarc.jpgMind you, the ladies certainly pulled out all the stops in the style department. For the first time ever, I can actually say that I've fallen in love with Katie Holmes' outfit. Amazing cut and colour.

Madonna played it safe colour-wise, but again, a lovely shape (and THANK YOU for finally sorting out Lourdes' monobrow).

J Lo made a great choice for a pregnant lady, but can I just say: Whoah! That's a baby bump and a half.

gwyn_trainer.jpgAnd Gwyneth? Well, the jury's out on this one for me - I'm none too sure about that dress/ heels combo. If you ask me, her wee friend is working the red carpet better.

At least, I think so. If I just squint my eyes a teeny bit...

New York Fashion Week Insider: Day 6

Nyfwstreetstyle.jpgI'm proud of the celebrities at Fashion Week today. They really proved that when it comes to fashion, they know how to separate business from spectacle, and drew attention to the causes that really matter.

I will admit that as a general rule, I'm fairly sceptical when celebrities start clothing lines. But Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Justin Timberlake have proven to make extremely smart choices about how they run their business of fashion.

They could easily have run with a mad house of a show, but both The Row (the Olsen’s line) and William Rast (JT’s project) presented their Fall collections with little fanfare and intimate presentations. That way you could focus on the simple and elegant pieces of The Row, and the newly expanded women’s wear of unisex brand William Rast. Instead of gossiping about what the Olsens were wearing, or whether Jessica Biel was there to support JT (she wasn’t). It is about the clothes after all, isn’t it?

But, more on that later.

The other reason I’m so pleased with our lovely celebrities this fine Thursday is the fact that they use their A-list status for good. Madonna partnered with Gucci to host a fundraising benefit, A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF, last night, taking over the United Nations to do it. Now that is star power right there!

This was THE big ticket of the week and a whole host of celebs came out for it. Jennifer Lopez, TomKat, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Demi Moore, Gwen Stefani… the list goes on! Rihanna was there to perform after a couple of days reporting at the front row. Seriously, an event dreams were made of.

So, for those without the golden ticket (they were actually gold)? Well, the hipster scene took themselves off to the Anna Sui afterparty, also host to British model Agyness Deyn’s birthday celebration. And the party kicked off early at Anna's afternoon show, where people were dancing in their seats during the catwalk presentation.

Now, remember I mentioned a rumour about a live band being involved in the Marc by Marc Jacobs show? Well, gossip on the front row has it that this will actually happen at Marc's regular Marc Jacobs show instead (Keeping up?). He's scheduled to close the week on Friday evening, and rumours have been swirling like crazy about what he’s got up his sleeve. M.I.A. is rumoured to be involved. Stay tuned for that!

But for now, a little daily dose of fashion comes in the form of this bundled up bit of gorgeousness right here. I loved the colour combo this girl was working. Click here to get it for yourself.

Ta for now! Fashion may never sleep, but I do!

Brittany Murphy's hubby presents style challenge

brittany_hubby.jpgYeah baby - Brittany Murphy has it all going on at the New York Fashion shows. The stunning shift dress, tasteful pearl set and immaculate make up. Just. Don't. Look. Left.

Ooh, you did, you looked left!

So just what did happen to Brit's man? Yep, that's right - her man. Hmm.

Did she forget to tell him where they were going? Because from where I'm sitting (in OSO Towers next to a rather tempting box of doughnuts, if you're wondering), he's front row at the most stylish, international fashion event in the Cosmiverse, sitting next to a Hollywood fox, and he's wearing a parka, yellow and pink golf jumper, topped off by red Elton John sunnies. And let's not forget the 'only sexy on Mr Brad Pitt' flat cap!

Last time I looked that combo wasn't exactly happening in fashion.

Note to self: Never again shall I criticise my man for wearing trainers and a sweatshirt when we're out shopping...

New York Fashion Week Insider: Day 5

NYfashionweekstreetstyle.jpgWhat would Fashion Week be without a healthy dose of drama? Well, the answer really is ‘not Fashion Week’. So I thought I'ld fill you in on a bit of scoop surrounding the shows yesterday and the night before.

Btw, this time difference is a killer! And as much as I love you OSO Blog readers, I just can’t bear to wake up at 4am to blog about the late night I had before. I need my beauty sleep! So bear with me here as I report from, erm, the past!

The Ports 1961 show turned into a scene from a nightclub as one show crasher was refused entrance and literally had to be hauled off by four burly men (not sure where these burly men came from…). This resulted in all ticket holders who were allotted standing room being turned away as they decided to shut the doors completely.

The launch party for Chloe Sevigny’s new fashion line Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony on the hip Lower East Side neighbourhood created such a stir that invitees were forced to queue for an hour in the rain. As you can imagine, this caused quite a few 'VIP' fashionistas to turn round and go home.

And at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show, I overheard that a certain Editor-in-Chief of a woman’s monthly being given standing room only (normally given to lowly reporters - like moi!), until an assistant asked the woman at the door ‘Don’t you know who she is?’...

A week of fashion drama really calls for a buddy system to brave the events. Which is exactly how our two style stars for today approach it. They even insisted on being photographed together! But hey, that just means a little extra street style for today. I loved the green tweedy jacket with a printed top and quirky grey heels. And can you really go wrong with black on black? Definitely my top looks of the day. Click here to get their looks.

And of course, there's still the fashion shows to talk about. Day 5 was all about glamour and rock stars, with Matthew Williamson falling smack dab in the middle of it all.

A couple Ugly Betty stars and Brittany Murphy (see what I mean about stars from the past?) were among those who took in the smoky, moody glamour at the Badgley Mischka and Monique L’huilleir shows. Sumptuous satins, tweeds and furs led the way in gorgeous autumnal colours. The evening wear didn't disappoint either, as both designers focused on gowns so good I wish that awards season actually existed in Hollywood this year.

Matthew Williamson’s show had a colourful rockabilly edge to it but with luxurious textures and beautiful fur scarves. Williamson, Diesel and Marc by Marc Jacobs dominated the rock star side of the catwalk, with M.I.A., Rihanna, Lydia Hearst and Fergie in the front row and hipster-worthy looks on the runway.

Tomorrow will bring news of just what went on behind the doors of Justin Timberlake’s William Rast party, one of the hot tickets of the week, and the Olsens presenting their own collection. Stay tuned!
