Kate Moss's new Topshop collection: the verdict!

Topshop's Kate Moss AW07 collection goes on sale today - so what's the verdict?

Well, the new collection is one of extremes: a few beautiful pieces jostle for floor space amongst several not-so-great pieces, with a wide array of non-descript sweaters in between. Another minor disappointment is that some of the best items aren't available online (I was particularly sad to see the absence of the stripey Doctor Who scarf): which means elbow-sharpening tonight if you want to hit the high street tomorrow!

Here are the items I'll be fighting over, and the ones I'll be leaving on the rail:

The good

Katemoss%20bag.jpgI was surprised to see a bag I really liked in the collection, as I am soo much more fussy about accessories than anything else! But this art deco inspired clipframe bag is OSOchic for any occasion, and I love the embroidered detail.

Katemoss%20dress.jpgChoosing the best dress was tough, as there are 3 or 4 really beautiful ones in the collection - but I loved the simple shape of this long-sleeved mini dress, as well as the '20s-inspired arrangement of the sequins. A perfect day-to-night dress for those long cold winter nights.

The bad

katemoss%20tank.jpg Fitted tank top? Check. Bright, clashing colours? Check. Tiny animal emblem? Check. I thought so: Kate Moss has stolen my dad's golf sweater! Still, what are the chances she looks better in this than he does?

The ugly

Katemoss%20jumper.jpgRather expensive mohair it may be (£55-worth, in fact!), but surely it's not just me that thinks this jumper looks like something you could buy from a street market for a fiver?

But hey, don't just take my word for it - check out all of Kate's Autumn/Winter collection here. Well, the part of it you can buy online, at least.

Get Kate Moss's new jeans from Topshop!

kate_flares.jpgWell, it had to happen. No sooner has Kate Moss stepped out in flared jeans than you can buy an identical pair from Topshop.

Yes, as Anna reported last week, Kate has ditched her skinnies for this pair of dark blue flares (which are still skinny at the top, natch). And, being Kate Moss, she was out in them again last night. And will probably be out in them again tonight. And tomorrow night. And... well, you get the idea.

q_jeans.jpgThe Topshop jeans aren't from Kate's own range, we hasten to add - although we wouldn't be surprised if a version now appears in her autumn collection. They're called the 'Q Jean', they cost £40 - and while they're probably most flattering on the slender and/or tall, Topshop jeans generally look great on everyone.

So just wear 'em over a pair of killer heels, and voila! Kate's Latest Look is yours. Especially if you team them with a black waistcoat. And a rock star boyfriend (out of shot).

Nicole Richie in Kate Moss dress!

nicolerichie.jpg
The new summer Kate Moss collection for Topshop only launched yesterday, and already celebs are sporting look-a-likes!

Nicole Richie looked very happy with herself in New York last night wearing a dress that looked suprisingly similar to the "must-have" item from Kate's new collection: a prom-style dress with a one-shoulder strap and cut-out pleat at the front, available in black, white and lemon.

The summer range features a teeny black bikini, sparkly sequinned top, casual white racer back vest, and more of Kate's trademark skinny jeans. In fact, it's very similar to her spring collection - but if Kate can look fab wearing the same styles season after season, why can't we?!

Kate Moss wears her trademark looks

Before I start, fashion fans: we want to pick your brains again. Now that the Moss/Topshop fever has died down - it was all like some sort of frenzied dream, wasn't it? - how do you rate Kate's collection? Let us know - vote right here!

kate-moss-trademarks.jpgAnd in the meantime: yes, Kate has been out wearing her trademark looks again. That's right - all of them! All at once!

On her way to a photoshoot in East London today, Kate was wearing her now infamous fringed black Minnetonka boots with skinny jeans (naturally), a striped sweater, fitted blazer and an oversized scarf. The whole outfit screams Kate Moss (and its a good job, as that's her name!).

Like Britney and Posh before her, Kate is also experimenting with an oversized trilby. Unlike those unfortunate ladies, Kate actually makes it work. If you ignore her total lack of make-up (well, she is on her way to a photoshoot) and very tired eyes, then this is a great casual look. As always.

Kate Moss wears that Topshop jacket again!

kate_jacket2.jpgSay what you like about Kate Moss - and people do - but that girl is certainly an advocate of recycling her clothes. While other celebs wouldn't be caught dead wearing the same thing more than once, Kate is more environmentally friendly than an Anya Hindmarch bag (if you possibly exclude all the carbon emissions of the private jets and chauffeured cars she travels in, but I digress).

To whit: here she is (leaving that lovely leaf-covered house of hers) wearing the yellow striped jacket from her Topshop range for the second time this week. But hey, at least she's swapped her black Minnetonka boots for... erm... what looks like a pair of Pete's shoes. How handy that he has the same sized feet!

Pics just in! Kate Moss wears her own Topshop jacket!

kateyellowjacket.jpgWell, this is a canny way for Kate Moss to keep the buzz going about her Topshop range - go out wearing a piece of it.

Mosserty were out in Soho last night - at the not-very-salubrious (trust me, I've been there) Jazz After Dark bar on Greek Street. And Kate's attire was her trademark skinny black jeans and fringed Minnetonka boots - plus the yellow striped jacket which she, ahem, designed for Topshop.

So, you too can get that exact same Kate Moss look. By wearing clothing which she's wearing. Which she designed. And then wore. So you can copy her look. Sorry... hang on... it's all getting a bit Lewis Carroll. I may have to go and lie down for a moment. Nurse..!

MossWatch: She's back in London!

kate_london.jpgSo, Kate Moss is back on our shores, and all is right with the world again. For a brief while there she was suddenly happily posing for the paparazzi and actually making proper public appearances and everything.

But now the Topshop promotional whirlwind is over - and fresh from taking on America pretty successfully, Kate's returned to what she knows best, ie. rushing past cameramen with her head down, while wearing black. Ah, it's like it was all some sort of (crowd-filled, five-items-only, crazed-mob) dream...

Kate Moss sells out in New York, too

barneys400.jpgWell, it opened at 10am. And by 11am, Barneys in New York - as well as other branches across the States - had sold out of Kate Moss's Topshop collection. All 11,000 pieces of it.

Unlike Topshop over here, Barneys was only offering 26 designs from Kate's range. But it seems that our American cousins have lapped it up - to a certain degree. According to today's New York Times, there were fewer than 100 women waiting outside the flagship store on Madison Avenue (pictured here) yesterday morning - although the teenage sisters at the front of the line had been there for four hours. Still, the collection sold out nationwide within the hour - and a spokesperson for Barneys has said that they now plan to order twice the amount for the autumn.

As in the UK when La Moss's collection launched, American shoppers were limited to five pieces each yesterday. But unlike in the UK, the window display of Barneys New York is very quirky and imaginative (ie. a bit odd), as you can see above. No big billboard of Kate in her trademark waiscoat and denim hotpants here, oh no. Instead, the Barneys windows are currently festooned with images of Kate's head - floating rather bizarrely without a neck or body - white statues and classical busts, and strange speech balloon cards saying such things as: "I want a date with Kate!", Long live Sir Phil!" and "I love Kate. Oink!". Well, that last one is coming out of the mouth of a pig statue. So it does make perfect sense.

katenaomi.jpgAt the launch party in Barneys the night before - where, as you can see, Britain's Other Supermodel also put in an appearance - Kate looked fabulous in a see-through mini-dress from her range, worn with a big black belt, big black pants... and, erm, that's it. Well, as the creative director of Barneys said this week: "People are fascinated and intrigued by the way Kate puts herself together." And she most certainly proved him right here.

Kate Moss prepares for her big New York launch

kate_nyc.jpgKate Moss's range for Topshop goes on sale in Barney's in New York today - and here's the lady herself returning to her hotel in the Big Apple yesterday, ahead of last night's launch party at the store.

And it sounds like that party was something of a success. According to USA Today, Kate "sipped champagne, talked to reporters and posed for photos with fans on the seventh floor of the store, as photographers snapped away with unusual intensity" - while "her London pal Sadie Frost was on hand to lend support". And sip champagne too, presumably.

So will our Yankee cousins fall for La Moss the same way we did? Will they be queueing - sorry, forming a line - round the block when the collection goes on sale today? We'll be keeping our finger on the American fashion pulse and letting you know (check out the coverage on Catwalk Queen, too). And in the meantime...

sarahkate.jpg...check out how finger-on-the-pulse we are here at OSOYOU - because without realising it, Sarah turned up to work today wearing almost exactly the same outfit that Kate did yesterday. And there she was, standing at the bus stop this morning, agonising over the fact that the 12-year-old schoolgirl next to her was wearing the same shoes. See, Sarah? You don't look like a 12-year-old schoolgirl. You look like Kate Moss! Result!

Kate Moss hits New York in style

mossnyc.jpgWell, what else would you expect her to hit it in?

Yes, La Moss has arrived in New York - ahead of the launch of her Topshop range in the Big Apple tomorrow. She turned up to the Costume Institute Gala (like the slightly less well-dressed ladies below) in a very understated long, black dress. And guess who was with her? Why, Philip Green, of course! Who seems to have become Kate's own private (portly, fiftysomething, millionaire) bodyguard. Still, there are worse jobs, eh?

Kate Moss: The shoppers' verdict

Anonymous.jpgSo, we sent Melissa down to Topshop on Oxford Street to get the skinny (as it were) on the Kate Moss collection - and the verdict from The Great British Public seems to be pretty mixed.

Some, like this Mossionista here, said they loved the range - and got their hands on the prized items they were after. "I saw this dress in the press coverage in the run-up to the launch and am so pleased I got it," she told Melissa. "I've bought quite a few items - including a pair of classic Kate-style black flat boots."

Another lucky young lady was Meg, below, who bought the much-coveted floral print 'is it a top, is it a dress?'. But even Meg's verdict was mixed. "The collection is OK, but only OK. I pretty much had to fight for this top, though," she said.

Melissa backed that up - saying that the queue to get into the Kate Moss section was incredibly long. So customers were either put off by that; or generally disappointed when they did get to see the collection. "It was all quite same-y, the same colour palettes, lots of shorts and waistcoats," said one. "Topshop’s regular range is generally like her style anyway, so it's not really anything different," said another. Which we can see - but then, that's probably kind of the point: Kate's look is the Topshop look, and so fits the brand to a tee.
meg.jpg
So will the Moss mania calm down? Will we see a flurry of women wearing floral print 'is it a top, is it a dress'-es up and down the streets of Britain? And how will the collection go down in the States, when it launches over there next Wednesday? As ever, watch this space, fashion fans!

Melissa models the Kate Moss dress!

melissa.jpgHere it is, folks! The gorgeous blue, one-shouldered dress that our trusty Jess got for us at the Kate Moss for Topshop launch.

It's being modelled by our newest OSOYOU team member Melissa - who shows very beautifully how you can achieve that Mosserty rawk chick look by teaming its floaty chiffon layers with some gold jewellery and black boots. Melissa's also modelling the patent leather clutch bag from the Kate Moss range, too - and as you can see, it's so hot off the Topshop shelves that it's BNWT, as they say on eBay.

And if you're liking what you see, the good news is that this very dress and handbag could be yours! Watch this space to find out how to win them in our upcoming competition.

chris.jpgOh, and not to be outdone: our friend Chris from Shiny Media happened to drop by as I was photographing Melissa, and didn't want to be left out. So here he is, modelling a 'Chris for Five-A-Side' creation, ie. a top which says 'Who ate all the pies' , which he designed for his football team. Look out for the entire Chris for Five-A-Side range coming to a football ground near you soon. Erm, possibly.

OSOYOU at Topshop: We don't just bring you the news...

moss_guardian400.jpg...we are the news.

Imagine my surprise when I was clicking through The Guardian's picture slideshow of the Kate Moss Topshop launch, to see that I had made one of the photos. Yes, little ol' me. I feel rather like that guy whose bosses saw him at in the crowd of a cricket/football/whatever match on TV, when he should have been at work, and promptly fired him. Only in reverse. As in: I'd told my bosses that I'd gone to Oxford Street to cover the Kate Moss event - and look, here's evidence in the national press that I did! (Admittedly, the photos I came back with of crowds, queues and KM in the window might have given it away, too. But, still).

So, here we all were around 7.30pm, waiting with feverish anticipation (and on the part of foreign tourists: slight bemusement) for La Moss to appear in the window. And as for which one's me? Well, granted, it's a bit like 'Where's Wally?'. And the only reason I could actually spot myself was because the nice girl next to me in the crowd (who I got chatting to - turns out she was a journalist covering the event for People magazine) had very distinctive strawberry blonde hair and black Alice band. And if you can spot her, you'll see me. The brunette right at the edge of the frame (it looks like it's my grey arm that's sticking out with a camera in hand, but in fact it belongs to that girl next to me).

Ah, fame at last. Now I know how Kate Moss feels. Please, no pictures. Well, no more, at least.

Kate Moss v Lily Allen: It's style warfare!

lilyred.jpgSo, Lily Allen's collection for New Look goes on sale next Wednesday - and we're going to be down there, blogging live from the store (presumably not the one that got burned down last week, though. If we get there and there are just the charred remains of hundreds of pink hoodies, we'll let you know).

From the sneak previews, it looks like Lily's collection is mostly full of flouncy, Carmen Miranda-esque dresses like this one. Dresses which Lily says "are super-girly but that doesn't mean you have to be a size zero" to wear them. Which is nice. Although judging by the way they've styled the 'Lily Loves' section of the New Look website, it does seem they expect you be about 13 to want to wear them. Hmm.

kateshirt.jpgEither way, the advent of yet another celeb-led high street collection means that there's about to be a style war between the too-cool-for-school, rawk chick look that Kate has designed for Topshop and the fun and colourful, '50s throwback style Lily's sporting for New Look.

But whose style do you like best - and whose collection are you actually interested in buying pieces from? Let us know what you think - take part in our poll!

The Kate Moss party: What the guests wore

sadie.jpgNot surprisingly for a Fashion Event (with capital letters), the uniform for guests at Kate Moss's Topshop launch was black, mixed with black. Her close pals Sadie Frost and Davinia Taylor were snapped here leaving the post-launch drinks party at the Dorchester. And as you can see, Sadie wore a classic black mini-dress with sheer neckline, while the very orange and a very pregnant Davinia wore a rather more modest, flowing number - with a cute black bow at the cleavage.

nat.jpgAlso spotted leaving the Dorchester bash was the never knowingly less than beautiful Natalie Imbruglia - who's sporting a very Louise Brooks-ish bob these days; and who was out partying in skinny jeans (natch), black flouncy top, big chain necklace and killer heels.

natface.jpgAnd I can't believe I've never spotted this before: but have you noticed how much Natalie looks like Angelina Jolie these days? Here's a close-up just to prove it. Well, I never.

Kate Moss a-go-go! Day Two: is it still selling?

What a week at OSOYOU Towers! Have we been hot and heavy with Kate Moss this week... What with heading down there to stake out the store, meeting potential OSOYOU-ers and offering them Topshop vouchers.

The office has been awash with stash from La Moss - the red $200 dress, the sequinned toga, the floaty floral dress - but the headline from the shopfront this avo is that now that the media fuss has abated, and the online store has sold out, people don't seem to be buying it as much. The OSOYOU team headed down at 3pm and couldn't find many people at checkout with Moss Wear..

So will it be a long-term hit as Philip Green is determined? We'll keep you posted!

Our Kate Moss bounty revealed!

bluedress.jpgHere's Jess last night with her prized bounty from the Kate Moss Topshop launch. She spent her OSOYOU pocket money on a stunning blue, one-shouldered asymmetrical dress for £120....

clutch.jpg...and this fab patent leather clutchbag for £45.

We're going to be giving away this perfect going-out outfit - so watch this space to find out how you can win it and be the envy of all your friends in your OsoKate clobber... And watch this space, too, for a better picture of that gorgeous dress when it arrives in our office. Quite possibly with every member of the team trying it on. Ahem.

We'll be back down at Topshop on Oxford Circus later today, finding out who's buying what - and what The Average Punter (that's you and me, kiddo) really thinks about the new Kate Moss collection. In the meantime, check out Catwalk Queen's verdict here.

And for all you non-Moss fans: don't worry, normal service will be resumed... erm, soonish ;-).

Kate arrives home

katehome.jpgSo, here's Kate Moss arrriving home last night after the Topshop launch. Nice to see she kept that £195 red dress on (which according to Catwalk Queen, looks like a nightie in real life) - and not too surprising to see she'd ditched her killer stilettos by this point.

Apparently, Mossy and pals like Sadie Frost, Davinia Taylor and, erm, Philip Green lived it up at the Dorchester after their Topshop appearance. Well, you don't want to mix with the hoi-polloi for too long, do you?

katehair.jpgOh, and I was right about that new hairdo - pictures have just come in of Kate leaving her house earlier yesterday on her way to the Topshop launch. And as you can see, the hair's definitely blonder. And shorter. And very, very gorgeous.

PS. If you'd like to be the proud owner of the same red dress that Kate was wearing that night - and frankly, who wouldn't? - then check out Catwalk Queen's competiton to win Kate's dress.

Kate appears in the window!

red1.jpgAt approximately 7.45pm, the moment we were all waiting for finally arrived (at least 15 minutes late, but hey: it was La Moss, so all is forgiven). To an unbelievably excited crowd of paparazzi photographers, journalists, fans, bemused tourists, and me, Kate Moss appeared in the window of Topshop and posed like a mannequin, in a stunning red dress.

It was really quite odd to see her in the flesh - and I can report that the real thing is... very mannequin-like, very stunning, very lithe of limb and looking very newly blonde. Well, if this occasion doesn't warrant a trip to the hairdresser's, frankly, what does?

Unfortunately for the enthusiastic throng, however, Kate's appearance was short-lived. She posed for approximately 10 seconds, it seemed...

dress2.jpg...and promptly walked off. Not a bad way to earn £3m, eh?

(Photos courtesy of Big Pictures. Unfortunately my arms aren't that long).

Star-spotting at the Kate Moss Topshop launch

laurene.jpgThere were hoards of photographers and journalists around tonight, of course - and helicopters circling overhead - and even Topshop had its very own roving reporter working the crowd: Ms Lauren Laverne, no less. Who looked very lovely, very slim and very pale - and who was cannily acting as a real-life model for the Kate Moss collection, wearing that floral mini-dress, red jeans and killer red satin shoes.

vip.jpgAround the corner, I spied the entrance for the VIPs - where these women in black dresses (what else?) were managing the guestlist, and the likes of Sadie Frost, Davinia Taylor and Some Extremely Thin And Extremely Orange Women were arriving for Kate's pre-launch cocktail party. The devil may usually wear Prada - but tonight in London, dear readers, she was most definitely wearing Topshop.

Three go wild in Topshop

trio.jpgWe set Jess - on the right - on a mission: to be one of the first in the store, and come home with some lovely Kate Moss booty for us. Or rather, for you: because we'll be giving away whatever she bought. So watch this space!

Fortunately, Jess bumped into two friends as she joined the queue (well, London's such a small city, you know). Lucy, who said she had her eye on the must-have leather jacket and floral print dress; and Baz, who was there to buy whatever he could and make a killing by selling it on eBay. I've got to admire his entrepreneurial nouse.

kim.jpgI also stopped to chat to our friend Kim here, from Catwalk Queen - who, like the devoted fashionista blogger she is, had been queuing outside the store since 2pm. No wonder she needed caffeine, poor lass.

The crowds gather for Kate Moss

queue.jpgAfter a quiet start, it all suddenly got very busy and very exciting down at the Oxford Circus Topshop store this afternoon - and this was the scene when I arrived there at about 6.30pm.

The queue was snaking round the block - and I tell you, I've never seen so many big sunglasses and skinny jeans in one place at the same time. Thank goodness I've just had a fringe cut - otherwise I would have felt completely out of place.

Kate Moss at Topshop: An in-store preview

inside2.jpgSo, this is what it looks like inside Topshop right now (I rather naughtily managed to get a few snaps without the security peeps spotting me. See what enoromous risks I take for this blog? I could have been barred from Topshop for life! Imagine!).

inside1.jpgDown on the lower ground floor, they've barracaded off a huge section where the Kate Moss collection is going to be. It's surrounded by those big black boards, so you can't see inside - so your guess is as good as mine as to what exactly lies behind there. Although call it a hunch, but I'm guessing it could, possibly, be racks of waistcoats, jeans and little white dresses. But like I say: it's just a hunch. Find out what the reality is when we report back later tonight...

Is this where Kate will appear tonight?

curtain.jpgRumour has it that Kate Moss will be appearing, mannequin-like, in the window of Topshop tonight - just ahead of doors opening and the stampede beginning.

And from the looks of this big red velvet curtain currently hanging in one of Topshop's windows, I'd say that's highly likely. Although as Kate's appearance is due to take place after an hour-long, in-store cocktail party for her and her mates, I do have a rather lovely image of her staggering onto the stage in her newly designed Little Black Dress, fag in one hand, glass of champers in the other. The hardcore Kate Moss fans

queue2.jpgHere are the die-hard Mossionistas, folks. The people who, by 2pm this afternoon, had already started queuing for the launch of Kate's collection at Topshop... in front of Miss Selfridge, rather bizarrely, so it was easy to miss them.

There were about half a dozen of them - so yes, not quite the throng we (or Topshop's extra security guards) were expecting - but hey, at least they were there. And they've got another six hours on that pavement, so let's hope they've brought a good book with them, too, eh?

Kate who? It's business as usual at TopShop

moss_men.jpgWell, it is for these fellas, at least. I popped down to Topshop at lunchtime to see what was happening - and put it this way, it wasn't quite the same as the Oxford Street Primark frenzy. Or even the 'I'm not a plastic bag' frenzy. In fact, it was distinctly business as usual - people walking past the shop windows, and blokes waiting patiently outside for their girlfriends/wives/sisters. Bless.

Kate Moss at Topshop: The day begins!

mosswindow.jpgSo, this was the window display at Topshop on Oxford Street yesterday - and as I write, it's precisely 10 hours and counting 'til we can get our mitts on Kate Moss's design booty.

The store will shut at 5.30pm today - and from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, Kate will be hosting an in-store cocktail party for her and her pals. At 7.30pm, rumour has it she'll be posing in the shop window - with customers then being let in 150 at a time, from 8pm (colour-coded wristbands and all), to go shopping.

And despite not being out in front of Topshop in a tent right now, I'm hoping to be one of them. Yes, I'll be down at Oxford Circus later for the British fashion event of 2007 - and providing I don't get crushed in the stampede of 2,000 fashionable young women diving in to buy that coveted leather jacket/white dress/waistcoat, will be bringing you all the news, pictures and gossip right here on this blog. Wish me luck!

Oh, and our friends over at Catwalk Queen are also going to be blogging live from the event. See, everyone's at it!

Kate's Topshop collection - Moss or Dross?

katetopshop.jpgSo, Kate Moss's eagerly anticipated collection for Topshop has been revealed - and it includes waistcoats (natch), skinny jeans (ditto), vintage-style mini dresses, modelled by Irina Lazareanu and Kate herself.katewhite300.jpg

Kate's designs go on sale over here on May 1st, and a week later in the States (at Barney's in New York). But the knives are already out - in America, at least - with New York magazine leading the pack. "In a word: snore," it said. "Maybe [Topshop] was yearning for clothes that would only look good on people who are hungry and sullen. If so, Topshop hit the jackpot. Whether you love or hate Madonna's H&M collection, at least she tried to put together a cohesive line rather than just copying all the crap that was already hanging in her closet."

The New York Post went one step further, headlining its article about the Moss invasion "Duplikate" and describing her designs as "oddly familiar". "The line she's delivered looks like Kate copying a lot of other people's stuff Kate's worn before," it said.

Hmm... Personally, we're not completely blown away by La Moss's foray into high street design - although we do love the cute asymmetric white dress; and as is often the case with clothes like this, it could all rest on the quality. And unfortunately we won't be able to report back on that one until we get our grubby mitts on the items themselves in May.

In the meantime, what do you think? How impressed are you by her designs (you can see them all here)? And more importantly: would you actually buy any of them?
