As Jessica Day and Cece, their fashion choices couldn't be further apart, but in real life it looks as though New Girl actresses Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone have got a little more in common. At a dinner party in Hollywood thrown to celebrate Zooey's gorgeous February cover shoot for Glamour Magazine, both Zooey and Hannah nodded to the lace trend, opting for two very different - but equally beautiful -styles.
First up is our favourite vintage loving girl Zooey, who chose a pretty teal number by one of her favourite designers, Monique Lhuillier. Featuring sheer three quarter length sleeves, a repeating lace pattern and a subtle gathered waist, the dress has that "modern with a vintage twist" look that Zooey works so well. The 33-year-old New Girl star finished the look with a pop of red nail varnish (which I love) and as usual, a pair of tights (which I wished she had left at home on this occasion).
Whilst Zooey went for beautiful yet demure, her co-star Hannah settled for something a little more sultry. The 32-year-old beauty wore a fitted midnight blue dress by Theia which detailed lace cap sleeves and a satin belt at the waist. Keeping her makeup flawless and her hair in a simple yet chic half up half, Hannah looked unbelievable as always (like seriously, she doesn't even need to try).
If you've been bitten by the lace bug, you can shop our favourite lacey dresses of the moment below - we think Zooey and Hannah would approve!
Left to right A Wear fit and flare lace dress £34, Adrianna Papell sleeved lace dress £125, Whistles Gloria lace v neck dress £175, Miss Selfridge scalloped lace dress £39, ASOS skater dress in lace £28.
Zooey Deschanel has blown me away this morning with her latest magazine cover for Glamour Magazine US. The New Girl actress, who is the cover star for 'The Guy Issue' February 2013, looks absolutely stunning in a shimmering blue Prabal Gurung dress featuring a bustier style top and white panels. I don't know about you, but I love when Zooey wears blue; it compliments her fair complexion and makes her incredible eyes pop!
Gracing the cover of both the magazine and the bonus hair supplement inside, the 33-year-old wears her curls in a half up, half down style with her fringe/bangs parted to frame her doe eyes. Whilst the retro hair and make-up, quirky nail art and even the vintage style of the dress are all things we've come to expect from Zooey, she looks more sultry, and, for lack of a better phrase, more 'grown up' than usual. Inside, she gives an honest interview teamed with a stylish yet fun 'girl on the farm' photo shoot, in which she lassos a male model and poses with animals whilst wearing dresses by Oscar de la Renta and Balmain, bustiers by Rebecca Minkoff and John Rocha, a variety of Louis Vuitton jewels and Manolo Blahnik pumps.
For all the superficial reasons we admire Zooey (the looks, the clothes, and the hair - OH THE HAIR) her self assurance and level headed personality outshine them ten fold. As she continues to make a name for herself in the industry, it seems she's determined not to be seen as her loveable, yet ditzy New Girl character."I think a lot of people think that they know me. I'm not Jess; I just look the same," says Deschanel. Check out some of our other favourite quotes from the interview below:
On being seen as an oddly controversial figure to some women and her critics...
"I'm just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can't be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f--king feminist and wear a f--king Peter Pan collar. So f--king what?"
On if she feels pressure to look a certain way...
"I don't. But actresses have definitely gotten thinner over the course of my lifetime. Women I admired growing up-- Debra Winger, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep--were all beautiful and thin, but not too thin. There are a lot of actresses who are unhealthy-skinny--much, much too skinny. You can't Pilates to that. I'm a very small person, and if I lost 15 pounds, I'd look like them; it's scary. For young girls, what does that say? You need to look this way to be successful? That's not true. You do not need to look or be anorexic to be successful in Hollywood. The range of what's acceptable is larger than what people believe."
Our favourite quirky girl Zooey Deschanel bagged herself a well deserved award at the
Broadcast Television Journalists Association Critics' Choice Award last night! Winning Best Comedy Actress for her starring role in New Girl, the 32-year-old beauty made sure her manicure was just as hot as her fiery yet floral Oscar de la Renta dress and Christian Louboutin heels.
It's no secret that the adorable Zooey loves her nail art - the actress is always posting pictures of her manicures on twitter and instagram, and even has a feature called "Nails of the Day" on her website, Hello Giggles, which showcases some pretty awesome designs! For the Critics Choice Awards, Zooey took a trip to CHI nail bar in Beverly Hills for some lemony 3D nail art, featuring some seriously glittery varnish and accent nail bows. What we want to know is, does the girly manicure beat the tuxedo nail art Zooey sported to the Golden Globes earlier in the year? Let us know in the comments below!

Whether you've been following her since the early days (aka Failure To Launch and Elf) or you've only just fallen in love with her on New Girl, Zooey Deschanel is everyone's latest girl crush. The quirky 32-year-old actress is certainly a firm favourite on the best dressed lists at the moment, but it hasn't always been that way - as the loveable Zooey took her first tentative steps into the Hollywood world, her fashion choices were...a little risky to say the least!
She hasn't always got it right, but with a playful personality and wicked sense of humour, we doubt that Zooey cares what the critics think of her these days. Over the years, the stunning model/actress/singer has honed her girly, retro-inspired wardrobe into a thing of beauty - styling custom made designer pieces and vintage accessories with quirky, personal touches. We take a look at some of Zooey's most successful, and slightly scary moments, in her evolution.
Because I couldn't bring myself to start with pictures of Zooey with her blonde locks (believe me, it's too painful) we're kick starting this style journey in 2006. Although I have to give her kudos for her quirky sense of style, there was definitely room for improvement - the makeup was a little too 90's at times, and the accessories left a lot to be desired. Zooey turned to Brit designer Julien MacDonald for a lemon dress that reminded her of Grace Kelly for the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy premiere in London, but let herself down by teaming it with a hideous pair of ill fitting sandals. Thankfully, she made up for this look with a playful Isaac Mizrahi dress featuring puffed sleeves and an oversized bow for the Teen Choice Awards.
We can't talk about Zooey's style without mentioning her obsession with wearing black tights. Now, I don't mind that she wears tights 90% of the time (if I did, I'd be a hypocrite) but there are certain outfits that cry out for bare legs. You gotta draw the line sometimes Zo! Thankfully, neither of these colourful dresses worn for the Independent Spirit Awards and Vanity Fair Oscar party look out of place with a pair of tights. Which outfit do you prefer? Personally, I think the flirty floral number on the left is a little too mumsy for Zooey - the embellished mini dress on the right is a big step in the right direction.
What a difference a year or two makes! Zooey ramped up the sex appeal in 2007 as she attended a party for her Wizard of Oz inspired show, Tin Man. Sporting a red Zac Posen minidress with a plunging neckline, the actress managed to pull off sexy yet quirky in one fell swoop, although she still couldn't let go of the tights. Whilst the accessories were hit and miss, over all her look became a lot more polished, and as we move into 2008, Zooey finally plucked up the courage to wear an above the knee dress WITHOUT tights! Snapped outside The Late Show, Zooey embraced a little old school glamour in a stunning tiered strapless dress by Monique Lhuillier.
This first look is one of my all time favourite Zooey outfits. For a BAFTA party in LA, Zooey opted for a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta dress covered in detailed beading, and looked breath taking in the process. Everything about this look works, from the cut of the dress, the soft curls in her hair, and even the shimmering gold accessories. Getting more and more stylish by the second, Zooey wore two of her favourite designers for the Billboard Awards (Moschino and Miu Miu) and rocked her trademark tights with a 60's up do and coral lips.
As we move into 2011/2012, Zooey's style evolution has reached dizzying heights. Following the success of Indie movie 500 Days of Summer and her hit show New Girl, Zooey has become a firm favourite on the red carpet. For the 2012 Golden Globes, Zooey opted for a custom Prada dress that had a distinct 60's quality, and wore her hair in a new, straight style. She also accessorised the look with an adorable tuxedo manicure! I love that Zooey still incorporates quirky touches to her outfits and hasn't become a cookie cutter starlet - her hipster roots and love of vintage are still a big part of her wardrobe. For the White House Correspondents Dinner, Zooey embraced full on glamour in a stunning Oscar de la Renta number, which she paired with a gold belt and side-swept curls. Beautiful.
When it comes to the latest scoop on celeb interviews, no one else could get us quite as excited as New Girl of the moment and OSOYOU style crush, Zooey Deschanel. She's just one of those female celebs that instead of loathing (like so many let's be honest), we're actually finding ourselves loving. We also kind of want to be friends with her. Best friends.
So when these new pics were released of the cute and quirky star alongside a revealing interview for US Marie Claire, we couldn't help but share it with all you OSOblog readers. If you've taken as fondly to the New Girl star as we have, you'll be surprised to hear life hasn't always been so easy going for the loveable Zooey. She revealed to US Marie Claire that she used to be bullied by a girl at school.
"I was ridiculed" she told the magazine. "I really don't know why she spit at me. I just talked to her. I guess I wasn't allowed to talk to her. I remember I couldn't believe it. Certainly you change, and you change perspective, you have other experiences. But isn't it funny - I can still remember when I was treated differently from the way I'm treated now."
When asked about her love life, Zooey says: "Honestly, I'm just going through a divorce, so I don't really think that's something I want to get into now. I don't have time to date. I literally - don't have time
The May issue of US Marie Claire starring Zooey on the cover goes on sale on Tuesday, April 17th.
