Amy Winehouse was like a cartoon character, says Lily Allen

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgLily Allen has spoken about the death of Amy Winehouse for the first time, saying that by the end of her life she had become a 'cartoon character'.

Lily told The Telegraph, "I felt that she'd become such a cartoon character of herself."

"Her death almost didn't feel real because her life had virtually been lived in the newspapers near the end."

Lily also recounted how hard Amy's life must have been, recalling a time when she was at her house surrounded by paps. "I felt very trapped by the presence of 40 paparazzi guys hysterical outside her front door. I could totally see why she didn't want to leave her house."

"Amy struggled," Lily added."She wanted a real life. She wanted to go down to the pub and she couldn't."

Amy Winehouse didn't die from drug overdose

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgAmy Winehouse's toxicology results are back - there were apparently "no illegal substances" in her blood when she died, the report says.

"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death," the family said in a statement today.

"Results indicate that alcohol was present, but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."

"The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October."

Amy Winehouse's Fred Perry line will still be released

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgIt's been announced that Amy Winehouse's collection for Fred Perry will be released despite her death a few weeks ago.

In a statement released by the brand they said, "Amy was passionate and dedicated to the collaboration, and her signature style is clearly stamped across each piece."

"Amy's royalties and fees from both collections will be donated to the soon-to-be-established Amy Winehouse Foundation. Fred Perry will also make a seasonal donation to the Foundation," they added.

Apparently her dad Mitch Winehouse decided to let the line go ahead.
"Amy loved working on both collections, and would want them to be made available," he explained. "All the money we make and the donation that Fred Perry will give will go straight into to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which we are setting up to help children and young people in her name."

Amy Winehouse & Reg Travis were engaged

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgAmy Winehouse and Reg Travis were engaged when she died, it's been alleged.

We thought the singer and her film director boyfriend were separated, but it seems that wasn't the case at all - Amy's dad Mitch said at the funeral that the couple were "looking forward to their future together."

Reg himself said in a statement after Amy's death: "I can't describe what I am going through and I want to thank so much all of the people who have paid their respects and who are mourning the loss of Amy, such a beautiful, brilliant person and my dear love. I have lost my darling who I loved very much."

A source told The Sun, "Reg asked Amy and of course she said "Yes". She loved him."

"She wanted nothing more than to be his wife and to start a family with him. She wanted to get rid of her demons so badly," they added.

So sad.

Amy Winehouse's last ever interview

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgDetails of Amy Winehouse's last ever interview to The Telegraph have been released. Conducted during a studio session with Tony Bennett for his album Duets II, in it she talks about her shyness and her hopes to learn to play more instruments.

"I'm my own worst critic and if I don't pull off what I think I wanted to do in my head, then I won't be a happy girl." She said during the interview. "I'm not a natural born performer. I'm a natural singer, but I'm quite shy, really."

Amy also revealed, "I would love to study guitar or trumpet. I can play a lot of different instruments adequately but nothing really well. If you play an instrument, it makes you a better singer. The more you play, the better you sing, the more you sing, the better you play."

The singer also told them how happy she was to be recording with the singing legend, sadly saying, "I'm so happy to be here. It's a story to tell my grandchildren, to tell their grandchildren, to make sure they tell their grandchildren."

Amy Winehouse third album not finished

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgAmy Winehouse's longtime producer Salaam Remi has denied reports that the singer had finished her album before her death, meaning it could be released posthumously.

"We were working on it; it's not a complete album. We had a lot of things going, there are recordings, but first things first, I think. We're trying to focus on what's at hand and what her family wants to do. So those reports [that there is finished material] are false," Salaam explained.

The producer, who worked on both Amy's albums Frank and Back to Black with her, also talked about what the singer was like in the studio, saying. "To put it all in a nutshell, Amy loved to sing, to write... that ability never left her. She was very good at channelling her emotions into lyrics, and then being able to sing them. The way that Amy and I always created was she would write and we would toss ideas around."

He added, "Amy had strong opinions on everything... She was very opinionated about what she liked. At the end, she was a real person. She had a huge heart."

Do you think they should release her third album?

Mark Ronson's tribute to Amy Winehouse

mark_ronson_amy_winehouse.jpgMark Ronson performed his first gig since the death of his "musical soulmate" last night at Greenwich Summer Sessions, and dedicated it to the late singer he said was "like a sister" to him.

At the start of his set, Mark brought on members of Amy's backing band onstage to perform Valerie with The Zutons' singer Dave McCabe, and also played Rehab in a DJ set, along with a cover of Back to Black with the band.

""She made brilliant music, more than I'll make in my entire life," he told the audience. "It's really lovely getting to play some music here for you tonight."

The producer went on to talk about her funeral the day before, "I went to her service yesterday and there was a rabbi that spoke and he said that somebody's life is measured in deeds and not years and that's the best thing I heard yesterday."

"The genius in that woman and what she shared with us is pretty special. I'm not going to get all morbid on you. It's just nice to be playing music to people who like good music. She is my sister, wherever she is," Mark finished.

Amy Winehouse beat addiction before death

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgThe eulogy that Mitch Winehouse read at Amy Winehouse's funeral has been released, and in it he revealed that Amy had in fact conquered her addiction to drugs three years before she died.

He told the congregation, which included Mark Ronson and Kelly Osbourne, "Three years ago, Amy conquered her drug dependency, the doctors said it was impossible but she really did it."

Amy's Dad added, "She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence."

Mitch also told them that Amy was the happiest she'd been for a long time, with her boyfriend Reg, and that she was looking forward to the future. He added that knowing she was happy when she died has softened the blow of her death.

An inquest into the cause of Amy's death came back inconclusive - it could be a few more weeks until the results of a toxicology test.

Amy Winehouse's funeral taking place today

amy_winehouse_performing.jpgThe funeral of Amy Winehouse will take place today, it has been confirmed.

The singer, who was found dead at her home in Camden on Saturday, will be cremated today in Golders Green, north London after a private service - Jewish law states the funeral has to take place as soon as possible.

A spokesman for the family said: "The funeral will take place on Tuesday and will be a family and close friends affair."

Kelly Osbourne - who was good friends with Amy and helped persuade her to go to rehab at one point - will probably attend: she was spotted flying into Heathrow from LA yesterday.
