Ladies in red: Rihanna and Adele at the Grammys 2013
After witnessing a whole host of glitzy and very well dressed actors and actresses at the BAFTAs last night, our attention was drawn to LA to see if the musicians attending the 55th Annual Grammy Awards had paid any attention to the strict dress code this year. Despite a few fashion hiccups (re: Jennifer Lopez and her Angelina leg moment) there were a number of outstanding looks - namely, Rihanna and Adele who both pulled out some fantastic wild cards on the red carpet.

This may go down as my favourite Rihanna look EVER. Yes she blends into the carpet a little (as everyone does when they opt for red) but just look at her; she's practically glowing! The Barbadian singer wore a custom dress by Azzedine Alaia which not only fitted her perfectly, but also managed to tick both the risqué and the sophisticated box, thanks to the combination of a long train and sheer cross over detail across the bust. RiRi still likes to treads a fine line when it comes to fashion, and although I get the whole "bad girl" thing when she's performing, I love when she makes such an unexpected change. Finishing the look with some fresh flowing locks, red lipstick/manicure and minimal jewellery, Rihanna was the belle of the ball who's only downfall was her worst accessory of all - Chris Brown.

Another woman who shocked me last night was our very own Adele. I would never in a million years have pegged the Skyfall singer to be the first to wear this gorgeous floral pattern from the Valentino Couture collection; my money was on Emma Stone or Keira Knightley.
To be honest, I'm so used to Adele wearing black now, that I would have been thrilled if she had worn a colourful bin bag. Fortunately she vamped it up in this stunning red and black embroidered Valentino creation, which had been shortened from the full length runway version. Although some fashion critics have slammed the new mum for it, I actually really like this dress on her - the bell shape skirt and extra embroidery on the sleeves suits Adele's style. I LOVE the earrings, the classic makeup and the new hair too; the only thing I'm not sure about are the coordinating shoes. Simple black courts would have sufficed.
