Best dressed at the Brits: Long black dresses rule the red carpet

With so much focus on British fashion this week, it's been all too easy to forget about awards season, but this week's BRIT Awards, and the forthcoming Oscars have quickly grabbed our attention. Last night's BRIT's saw a whole host of musicians from around the world brave a London red carpet (surely they all deserve some recognition for not just throwing on a warm coat), and we've spotted one trend beating them all; the return of the LBD - the Long Black Dress!

Our award for top LBD of the evening goes to Miss Taylor Swift. Her flowing black Elie Saab dress with sheer paneling and gold belt detail was a real winner. She looked the picture of simple, sexy sophistication - a winning look for potentially bumping into British ex-boyfriend, Harry Styles.

Channeling a similar look, reality TV queen and former Pussycat Doll, Ashley Roberts wore a simple black strapless gown with a sheer skirt and gold belt detailing (have you spotted the theme yet?). Though perhaps not carrying the same level sophistication as Taylor Swift, Ms. Roberts made a simple, sexy offering the to BRITs LBD trend.

Finally, a rather windswept looking Jessie J shocked (again) in a black Vesace gown. Jessie's LBD, again completed with gold belt detailing, sported a rather daring plunging neckline, long sleeves and a full-length split up the skirt.
