Rihanna works it like an Egyptian at Hackney Weekend

Rihanna certainly showed off her stamina this week as she performed at BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend in London on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as finding time to party until 3am with her mates! The 24-year-old singer, who was joined on stage by Jay-Z, closed the free festival last night with an impressive Ancient Egyptian themed show (featuring a giant glittering sphinx, cat statues, hieroglyphic banners and a rotating golden throne!) that influence her outfit choice as much as her music.

The Barbadian songstress took to the stage in a black leather jacket adorned with golden Egyptian symbols, a long white t-shirt detailing a mirrored print of a big cat growling, heaps of ghetto gold jewellery (including hooped earrings, a chunky collar style necklace and some interesting embellished sunglasses), super short shorts with corset style fastenings at the side, fishnet bicycle shorts, and a pair of extremely sought after Air Yeezy 2 kicks designed by Kanye West.

A lot of people have hated on this look, but for me, this is one of Rihanna's best on stage outfits I've seen. She looked comfortable as she bounced around the stage in her trainers, she didn't lose her sex appeal by covering up thanks to those almost invisible shorts (come on, she has FANTASTIC legs) and she's bang on trend with her Egyptian inspired ensemble. Perhaps Ri-Ri picked up a few style tips from new best friend Rita Ora, who sported an evil eye necklace a few weeks ago?

It's not just the celebrities who've taken a shine to Ancient Egypt; hieroglyphic style graffiti prints and gold detailing were seen all over Topshop Unique's SS12 catwalk, and are now starting to trickle down to the high street. To get the look, embrace your street savvy style like Rihanna and mix graphic prints with gold jewellery and high tops, layering different fabrics to create a fun and fresh vibe.
