Brittany Murphy's funeral held on Christmas Eve

Friends and family gathered to lay actress Brittany Murphy to rest at a Christmas Eve funeral for the actress, who died last Sunday.

According to People magazine, the Kaddish, a traditional Jewish mourning prayer was recited, and the hymn Amazing Grace was sung.

The family released a statement to say that her husband Simon Monjack had called his wife his 'soul mate and that 'he went on to say that mystery is the nature of love and you never know when or where it will strike or how quickly it will be taken from you."
