Cheryl Cole has admitted that she offered to take one for the team and leave Girls Aloud when she was convicted of assault in 2003.

Cheryl might currently be the golden girl of prime time TV, but back in the day she was convicted of assault after an incident of a night club toilet six years ago. According to the News of the World, Cheryl admits in her new book Dreams That Glitter that she offered to leave the band.

According to the paper, Cheryl claimed that she retaliated after being accused of stealing lollipops from the nightclub toilets. However whilst preparing for the trial, she offered to leave the band so the other girls wouldn't be affected.

Just think how different the course of history/our Saturday nights would be if they'd taken her up on the offer.
