BAFTA dress report: Thandie Newton goes for gold

With diamonds literally dripping down the red carpet, it was easy to forget that we're currently armpit deep in recession, but the one actress flying the flag for all things eco was Thandie Newton.

Dressed in a black and gold vintage number, the Brit actress looked every bit as stylish as her designer-clad chums. Of course, the frock wasn't exactly a local chazza shop find, but it was surely a damn-sight less excessive than going for couture. You go, girl.
