Nicole Richie: an American yummy mummy

So, it's Bank Holiday Weekend in the UK, and Memorial Day Weekend in America - so that seems a good enough time as any to cross the linguistic boundaries between our two nations.

Taking baby Harlow for a push this weekend, Nicole Richie perfectly embodies what we'd call in Britain a "yummy mummy". That is: a stylish (usually new, 30-something) mother who always looks perfectly groomed (large sunglasses help), and who as well as pushing aforementioned child will possibly be carrying a latte, or a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.

Now, the closest American term to "yummy mummy" is the acronym "MILF".

A yummy mummy, however, is somewhat more refined than a MILF. Partly because she's British, and well, we're just a little less coarse about these things. No, really. We don't watch Benny Hill any more, either.
