Kate Moss is tarred and feathered in New York

katefeather.jpgWell, feathered, at least.

Yes, here was Kate Moss on her last night out in New York - following her appearance at the Costume Institute Gala, of course - sans Stella McCartney but avec a big smile on her face.

Also avec a black feathered waistcoat, plus regulation black skinny jeans, black knee-high boots, black vest top and black eyeliner.

Well, if it ain't broke, why fix it, eh?

She looks fine, but increasingly like a hairdresser. No disrespect to hairdressers, but in Holland at least, they all wear the tight-fitting, black uniform, and have been doing so for some two decades. Upgraded according to current trends, but the same, ol' boring stuff, still. I think some of the younger ones (and older - but less photogenic than Miss Moss, the only area in which she's hard to beat) do a far better job, imho: think Charlotte Gainsbourg and her mom, the eternally cool Jane Birkin, Clemence Poesy and Charlotte Rampling, Carine Roitfeld and her daughter, Charlotte from Monaco. As for Americans, I wouldn't know, even if Chloe Sevigny is quite inventive and original and I hugely admired the late Caroline Bessette's baffling sense of style. And what about Bjork? Or the funky, American Alison Mosshart? Some bloggers are amazing (think Agathe from Style Bytes). Let's move beyond the ubiquitous Kate Moss a bit: even when I'm a fan myself, her shtick is getting tiresome.
