George Clooney, Messenger Of Style. And Peace
While Paris Hilton was over in Arizona getting a red carpet laid out for her because she a) turned another year older and b) once made a home video, George Clooney was getting the red carpet treatment in New York for rather more worthwhile purposes.
George - who has done much to raise awareness of the crisis in Darfur - was named an official 'UN Messenger Of Peace' in a ceremony at the United Nations headquarters. "We tend to not get to see enough of what we need to see anymore. It seems as if at times celebrity can bring that focus," he told the press. "It can't make the policies, it can't change people's minds really, but you can bring a camera where you go because they'll follow you and you can shine a light on it. That seems to be my job."
George's other job, of course, is to look gorgeous in a suit. Which is exactly why we're including him here today, and why, as well as his United Nations honour, he's also gained a place in our Gorgeous Men In Equally Gorgeous Clothes Group. Which is nearly like becoming a United Nations Messenger Of Peace. But not quite.
