Dita Von Teese does New York in sublime style

Last time I arrived at a hotel in one of the world's most glamorous capitals (Paris, three weeks' ago, to be precise) I was wearing last year's battered Parka, hopelessly over-faded jeans of neither the skinny or boyfriend variety, 'comfy' shoes (yep, that's ugly comfy shoes), dragging an old wheelie suitcase still with the loft dust attached, and sporting a wind-blasted pink face.

This is Dita arriving at her New York hotel last night.

Hmm. No prizes for spotting the difference. Genuinely, I couldn't speak for a few moments when this pic landed in the office this morning, other than to utter a slightly pathetic 'wow'. This is style porn isn't it? Staring at it is just sheer, unadulterated joy. This woman is beautiful. Dita Von Teese is gorgeous. And the same age as me too (always a boost). I think I'm going to make her my screensaver, and, friends, not even my cat has made it to my screensaver.

So, notes to self:

Spend more money on great tailoring and better quality fabrics. It shows, especially when it's for black garments. Check out the shoulders and the sleeves on this jacket.

Red nail-varnish looks fantastic, especially blue-toned reds, rather than orange. Try it. Go the whole hog and do toe-nails too. It separates the men from the boys, so to speak! (Handy when dating.)

Pale is very, very beautiful. Pale with raven hair and red lips is breathtaking. You are pale. And dark-haired. Make the most of it!

Grooming is a good thing. Shape your eyebrows and wax legs. Yep, even in winter.

Sometimes it's better to hold on the jewellery. Especially if the make-up's quite strong.

Laboutin shoes? Don't think too hard about it, just do it. They can't fail to make me feel special.

Get someone else to carry my suitcase.
