Even Chanel can't save Paris from the jailhouse

So, Paris Hilton has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for violating her probation. Paris's solicitor has called the verdict "inappropriate and ludicrous" - but rather than talk about the ins and outs of the case here, let's just look at what she wore to court, shall we?

Following Tom Cruise and David Beckham's recent forays into three-piece-suit-wearing, Paris has opted to team a sombre black waistcoat with her jacket and trousers; as well as black sunglasses, black Alice band, black patent shoes and black Chanel handbag (well, there's no need to look too frumpy, is there?).

As anybody knows, black is the colour to wear to court, managing to convey both contrition and, if you're a woman, the air of a grieving widow (possibly grieving for the impending loss of one's freedom, in Paris's case, but let's not dwell on that). So Everyone's Favourite Hotel Heiress got it very nearly right here.

"Very nearly" because this being Paris, there is of course a slight comedy element to her outfit - and in this case it's that white shirt. A white shirt which looks like one of those silly old-fashioned cardboard ones - the sort which would roll up to comic effect on a man's chest, and which came with matching cardboard cuffs.
