Kate's Topshop collection - Moss or Dross?
So, Kate Moss's eagerly anticipated collection for Topshop has been revealed - and it includes waistcoats (natch), skinny jeans (ditto), vintage-style mini dresses, modelled by Irina Lazareanu and Kate herself.
Kate's designs go on sale over here on May 1st, and a week later in the States (at Barney's in New York). But the knives are already out - in America, at least - with New York magazine leading the pack. "In a word: snore," it said. "Maybe [Topshop] was yearning for clothes that would only look good on people who are hungry and sullen. If so, Topshop hit the jackpot. Whether you love or hate Madonna's H&M collection, at least she tried to put together a cohesive line rather than just copying all the crap that was already hanging in her closet."
The New York Post went one step further, headlining its article about the Moss invasion "Duplikate" and describing her designs as "oddly familiar". "The line she's delivered looks like Kate copying a lot of other people's stuff Kate's worn before," it said.
Hmm... Personally, we're not completely blown away by La Moss's foray into high street design - although we do love the cute asymmetric white dress; and as is often the case with clothes like this, it could all rest on the quality. And unfortunately we won't be able to report back on that one until we get our grubby mitts on the items themselves in May.
In the meantime, what do you think? How impressed are you by her designs (you can see them all here)? And more importantly: would you actually buy any of them?
